Mexico Wooing One Billion Chinese Tourists

By: Erick Laseca

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/ - Mexico Wooing One Billion Chinese Tourists

Efforts to promote Mexico’s tourism destinations are being heard half way around the globe. Mexico is ahead of many tourism destinations in courting the fast-growing Chinese market. For the second consecutive year in a row, the Mexico Tourism Board participated in what is now one of the most attended business-to-business outbound travel events in China, the 2007 China Outbound Travel and Tourism Market (COTTM), which took place at the China World Trade Center in Beijing on May 14 - 16.

As one of the 132 countries around the globe to be given the status of Approved Destination Status (ADS) by the Chinese government, Mexico, where tourism ranks as its second-highest source of foreign revenue, is especially eager to increase visitor influx and expenditure from this region. The 2007 COTTM, which attracted more than 200 exhibitors from 40 different countries across the world, was attended by Mexico Tourism Board’s CEO, Francisco Lopez Mena. As part of President Felipe Calderon’s agenda to stimulate the tourism industry in Mexico, Lopez Mena was an active participant in all promotional events that took place in Beijing.

“China’s emergence in the world market has significant implications for the global economy, and especially for the tourism industry,â€‌ said Mexico Tourism Board CEO, Francisco Lopez Mena. “We are quite ambitious about the Chinese market and are eyeing the potential it is representing already to our tourism economy,â€‌ added Lopez Mena.

According to the World Tourism Organization as many as 100 million Chinese will be traveling abroad annually by 2020, and the number of Chinese traveling internationally more than doubled in just four years. The International Forum on Chinese Outbound Tourism reports that the number of outbound departures rose from16.6 million in 2002 to 34.5 million in 2006. Although over 12,000 visitors traveled to Mexico from China in 2006, according to latest statistics from the Mexico Tourism Board, the annual growth rate is over 12% compared to 2005 figures. This best illustrates the potential upside for Mexico’s economy.

Sensing the outbound tourism potential in China and continuing the government’s agenda to strengthening relationships between the two countries, Mexico was able to change visa procedures for Hong Kong residents. Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) passport holders visiting Mexico now enjoy visa-free access for up to 90-day visit. This means greater convenience for Hong Kong travelers and helps promote trade, business and tourism relations between the two countries.

Mexico is China's second-largest trading partner in Latin America after Brazil, and tourism plays an active role in strengthening cultural and trade relationships. Continuing on the smooth development of Mexico-China relations, the Mexico Tourism Board considers China as a friendly and cooperative partner, and expects to make joint efforts with China to promote the development of both countries mutual relations in an all-around way.

About the Mexico Tourism Board

The Mexico Tourism Board (MTB) brings together the resources of federal and state governments, municipalities and private companies to promote Mexico's tourism attractions and destinations internationally. Created in 1999, the MTB is Mexico’s tourism promotion agency, and its participants include members of both the private and public sectors. The MTB has offices throughout North America, Europe, Asia and Latin America.

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/ - Travel Jobs & How to Make Money While You Travel

Ever had the desire to quit your lame 9 to 5 job, tell your boss to shove it, pack up and start traveling the world?

All of us have had that desire at one point! The thing that stopped you was probably the same thing that stops most people: money.

“How will I pay for my flights, food, lodging, transportation, yada, yada, yada,” you asked yourself.

Don’t let these concerns bother you too much, because there is an underground, growing group of travelers who are utilizing some simple but hidden techniques to make significant incomes while traveling.

Here’s an overview of how we make money traveling and by landing travel jobs:

Underground Travel Income Method #1 – Traditional Travel Job - Hold a job that either a) pays for us to travel or b) is located in the place we wish to travel to. This is the lowest paying and most complicated method of all, but is the most commonplace.

Common jobs that pay for travels are for professional speakers, salespeople, package couriers, flight attendants, travel nurses/doctors, conservationists, cruise ship workers, etc.

Travel jobs located in the places we wish to go to can be any of the above, but also are specific to the location we travel to. There are some FUN jobs overseas that are looking for foreign workers!

Underground Travel Income Method #2 – Travel Writing –
Travel writing jobs for magazines are more common than you may imagine. However, there are LOADS of other ways to write as you travel and make money, including blogging, picking up projects from sites like Elance and Guru, and writing travel guides, both online and offline.

Underground Travel Income Method #3 – Selling Affiliate Products –
Using a simple website, you can drive online traffic to a product that will be of interest to your online followers. Don’t be intimidated by this! It can be as easy as using your very own Facebook or Myspace profile. Affiliate products typically pay 50% to 75%, so you can make a very healthy income for selling just a few objects.

Underground Travel Income Method #4 – Filming Your Adventures – If you’ve got the camera out and you’re taking pictures, why not switch it to ‘film’ mode and make money from it? You simply make a video of your destinations using iMovie or Windows Movie Maker, then use your videos to create a customer base!

Underground Travel Income Method #5 – Podcasting – If filming scares you off or intimidates you, you can make an iTunes podcast. It is easier than ever to get listed in iTunes and there’s a HUGE audience of podcast listeners. Simply talk about the places you visit two or three times a week and watch how your following grows… and how your bank account grows!

Underground Travel Income Method # 6 – Ebay – The common misconception about Ebay is that you have to sell a physical product to make money. Here’s the trick: You can set up a fulfillment house to ship your product (or hire your little sister or the neighborhood kid). All you have to do is create your Ebay post from an internet café and collect the money!

Take any one of these six ‘travel job’ methods, and there are hundreds of travelers all over the world making more money than they would at a regular ‘job…’ and they’re living it up at exotic, world-class destinations. Take your pick, and take action on the ideas here!

Niagara Falls: Twenty Trivia Facts for you

By: Keith J. Valentine

You've probably heard of Niagara Falls but how much do you really know about it? You will learn about twenty trivia facts about the Falls. You will discover the answers to these questions and more - How tall is it? How deep is it? How high is it? What does it comprise of? Who owns it? How much does it erode? How much water flows over it? Where is it? What's gone over it?

Here are some interesting facts about Niagara Falls, mostly taken from Metromap Publication's Street Map Guide to the Regional Municipality of Niagara:

1. The Falls at Niagara cannot claim to be the highest or the widest in the world, or even to have the greatest flow of water. The Iguazu Falls on the Paraguay-Brazil-Argentina borders surpass Niagara Falls on all three counts. But Niagara's are the world's most popular.

2. From the water level to the crest, the American Falls are 182 feet high, the Horseshoe 176 feet high.

3. Ten percent of the water flows over the American and Luna Falls, 90% over the Horseshoe Falls.

4. There are actually three Falls: American (Rainbow), Luna (Bridal Veil) and Horseshoe.

5. The U.S. owns all, or part, of all three, while most of the Horseshoe Falls belong to Canada. Niagara Falls is located 23 miles northwest of Buffalo, New York and 79 miles southeast of Toronto, Ontario.

6. Today 50% of the Niagara River never makes it to the Falls: it is diverted for power. This percentage increases to 75% at night and in the winter months.

7. The Falls have eroded an average of 3.78 feet/year since 1842. Since the beginning there has always been a large spread of water on the approach to the Falls.

8. The Niagara River is not a river it is a strait.

9. One and a half million gallons of water flow through the Niagara River every second, or one cubic mile every week.

10. The Falls have taken 12,000 years to erode the seven miles from Queenston Heights, where they began, to their present position. But the Falls separated around Goat Island only 600 years ago.

11. The Niagara River drains 255,000 square miles of mid-continental North America.

12. With power requirements and anti-erosion measures, erosion has been reduced to less than one foot a year.

13. The whirlpool is 126 feet deep at the water level. The water spins around in a counterclockwise direction.

14. The water depth of the lower rapids is 45 - 60 feet, with currents of up to 30 m.p.h.

15. The drop from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario is 330 feet depending on seasonal water levels.

16. Seven people have gone of the Horseshoe Falls in a barrel. Four lived, three died.

17. Only two living things have been seen to go over the Falls safely without special protection - a dog over the American Falls in the 1800's and a boy over the Horseshoe Falls in 1960.

18. Five large boats and innumerable small ones have gone over the Falls, many with people in them.

19. A free swimmer has never conquered the lower rapids.

20. Before his death in 1942, the famous Red Hill saved 28 people from death over the Falls and salvaged 149 bodies of those that didn't make it. He accumulated more lifesaving medals than anyone else in the world.

As you can see, many facts have been compiled about Niagara Falls over the years but at least you probably now know considerably more than you did before about this amazing spectacle. You can either tell others that are planning to visit the Falls what you have learned, or you can plan to see it yourself now that you are an expert on the subject!

The Wonders of Canary Islands Sailing

By: Anne Tide

Have you ever thought about going to the sun kissed Canary Islands for a holiday? How about a Canary Islands sailing trip? Sailing through the Canary Islands will bring you long lasting wonderful memories for years to come. This is a fabulous vacation option, but you should be an experienced sailor or you should hire an experienced sailor for your trip, you will better be able to determine your needs on visiting one of several Canary Islands yacht charter services.

The Canary islands history dates back all the way to ancient Greece, it was even thought that the island of Atlantis was one of these gorgeous islands. Later forgotten and rediscovered in the 14th century when it was considered to be the end of the world, and still later used as a stopping point for ships traveling to the new world. Canary Islands sailing will bring you glimpses of these historic moments. A Canary Islands yacht charter will let you see the entire exotic flavor of these beautiful islands. You’ll be able to enjoy the hundreds of different volcanoes that dot these islands, the rich forests and jagged cliffs.

The seven islands are spaced out so that each is only a day’s sail away. Most canary islands sailing professionals that start from the north head over to Lanzarote, or Fuerteventura and then on to The Gran Canaria, following the Tenerife, then La Gomera, El Hierro and La Palma.

Sailing can be done during the whole year with mild temperatures that vary between 20 C and 27C. Canary Islands sailing is made more enjoyable with the trade winds that make for good sailing conditions. Although there are nice trade winds there are also some funnel effects that can cause winds to accelerate into gales. In some areas there are also swells that reach large heights, and make sailing quite a challenge. Although Canary Islands sailing can be quite beautiful and even inspiring, it is not a job for an inexperienced sailor. If you don’t have a lot of experience in sailing, you should probably hire a captain to sail with you on your sailing trip.

There are not very many safe areas to anchor in, between the different marinas and this makes the area difficult to maneuver in. When you visit a Canary Islands yacht charter service be sure to be honest about your experience, that way they will know what kind of vessel to recommend and will help you decide on whether or not to take a captain or not.

Recently the facilities for yachts and Canary Islands yacht charter services have improved greatly and more yachts are found within the islands. Some are even based there permanently.

Another recent change is the increased number of sailing yachts form Europe which spend the winter months in the Canary Islands. Most Canary Islands yacht charter services are located in Las Palmas where the yacht harbor is administered by the port authority.

How to Send Money to Thailand

By: Douglas Anderson

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/ - How to Send Money to Thailand

So you met this great Thai woman or man, and you know she/he is desperately poor, and you'd like to help by sending money periodically. How do you do this?

There are two ways: money transfer and debit card. The debit card method is cheaper but initially a bit more complicated.

1. Money Transfer

This method is best when you just want to send money once or a few times, not regularly.

First have her open a bank account, if she doesn't have one already, and send you the bank and account details. You can then transfer money via your bank, doing a telegraphic transfer (also called a "wire transfer" or "inter-bank transfer" or "SWIFT transfer" depending on what country you are living in). This costs US to , depending on the country you live in, and the bank you deal with, so it generally is not worthwhile unless you are sending more than 0. Some banks charge less than others, so it pays to shop around and ask what the fee is.

2. Debit Card

Open an account in a bank in your town that has the PLUS or CIRRUS symbol displayed. This means they are on an international ATM ("automated teller machine", also called "banking machine") network. PLUS and CIRRUS are both international, and do the same thing, and charge the same rates to their customers (the banks). Some banks belong to both networks, some to only one, and some to neither.

The account should be in your name. Get an ATM card (also called a "debit card" or "bank card") from the bank, put some money in the account, and use the card in any ATM to verify the card is OK by checking the balance or actually withdrawing some funds.

Mail the card to your friend in Thailand by registered mail. When she acknowledges receipt of the card, mail the PIN (the identifying number you have to enter when using the ATM card) by registered mail. Don't mail the PIN with the card in case the letter gets into someone else's hands.

She can then go to any ATM in Thailand that displays the same symbol (PLUS or CIRRUS), insert the card, enter the PIN, and withdraw any amount of cash (in Thai baht) up to the limit of what you put in the account. Your bank will automatically do a currency conversion from Thai baht to your currency. Since this is a separate account from your normal account, there is no danger that she (or anyone else if the card is stolen) can access your money in your normal bank accounts. Also, she can't withdraw any more money than what is in the account. So make sure there is no overdraft facility on the account when you open it.

Most banks will charge a fee for each withdrawal. Some banks charge as much as US, but most are less. Shop around and find a bank that has the lowest fees for international ATM transactions. (My bank charges nothing for international ATM transactions because I have a Gold Visa with them.) And tell your Thai friend to withdraw substantial amounts, not go back to the ATM every day to withdraw 100 baht, because the fees make that uneconomical.

So periodically you can transfer money into that account, and your friend can access it the same day. If you do this on a regular basis (say, at the first of every month, or the first and fifteenth), and tell your friend the arrangement, then she will know to go to the banking machine on those days and can withdraw the money.

With some banks, it is possible for the account to go negative (have an overdraft) even though overdrafts are not allowed, because she can withdraw the entire amount in the account, and the fee for international withdrawals will then be applied, pushing the account into a negative status. Some banks let you get away with this, and some charge a huge penalty (of say US). So check with your bank what their policy is. If you don't like their policy, you can do one of three things:

* change banks;

* keep an eye on the account (via the bank's Internet banking service) and transfer enough money in immediately to bring the account back up to zero; some banks will let you set up a rule that will be applied automatically to sweep money from your normal account into this account to keep the account non-negative;

* tell your Thai friend not to withdraw the entire balance, but to leave xxx Baht in the account at all times. This may or not be possible, depending on whether the ATM in Thailand tells her the balance of the account. This is a function of your bank, not the ATM or PLUS or CIRRUS. Some banks make the balance available, and some don't.

Treasure Hunting for Geodes

By: David Cowley

Geodes

Thunder eggs, or geodes, are geological rock formations which occur in sedimentary and certain volcanic rocks.  They look like regular rocks from the outside, the exterior typically made up of limestone, but then have crystal formations of quartz on the inside.  They're referred to as thunder eggs by treasure hunters because they do resemble very large eggs because of their smooth exterior and round shape.  If you're interested in any type of treasure hunting you may want to start out with these thunder eggs, or geodes.

The real value of the geodes is their appearance when they are halved and polished.  Their crystal formations typically come in a wide variety of colors, from deep purple to pink, blue, and even a silvery crystal color.  The formations of the rock itself leave a wavy design in the color, and the crystals on the inside emit a fiery glow.  Some thunder eggs that have been found are so large that they have been made into furniture, such as coffee or side tables.  Adding a base and a glass top makes the rock into a very interesting and sturdy piece of furniture.

Geodes

It's often difficult to tell what's going to be inside those geodes until you actually split it open, and usually they require some polishing in order for them to be at their full potential when it comes to shine and brilliance.

If you're interested in finding some geodes you need to know where to look or them.  Chances are you won't find them in your backyard, unless you live in Utah or Mexico.  Other area where Thunder Eggs have been found is Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, Texas, Utah, and the Geode State Park in Henry County, Iowa.  Iowa designated the geode as the official state rock in 1967.

Geodes

Rock Hound State Park in Deming New Mexico is open to the public for Rock Hounds of all ages.  It is known for its wide variety of mineral specimens due to ancient volcanic activity in the area.  Geodes can be found littering the valley floor.  Look for round or oval shaped rocks with a lumpy surface similar to the look of a cauliflower.  Use your rock hammer and break open the rock.  There is no easy way to determine what you have until you break the rock open.  Thunder Eggs are also found in the rocky crags of the desert walls.  Watch out for snakes and scorpions when reaching into any rocky outcropping.

According to Wikipedia, a large geode the size of a minivan was discovered in Ohio in the early 1900's in an area now known as Crystal Cave.  You can actually take tours of this area during the summer.  While it's unlikely that you'll find any geodes as large as your vehicle, the point is that they are obviously out there and can be quite valuable.

When searching for thunder eggs it's best to have with you a reliable guide that maps out areas of the dessert or certain cave formations where you may find them.  It's also imperative that you pay close attention to your own personal safety and never go spelunking or exploring in the dessert alone and without proper precautions.  There are no geodes that you may find that are worth your own personal life and safety.

Top Beautiful Island Destinations in Malaysia

By: Ahmad Abdullah

If you're travelling to Malaysia during this summer holiday, you don't want to miss visiting some of the most beautiful islands in South East Asia located in Malaysia itself. Those sandy beaches and palm trees that you would normally dream of can become a reality once you set your foot on the paradise islands.

Visiting these beautiful islands can be a perfect breakaway from your daily hectic office life. If you want to move away from visiting big cities and watching skyscrapers, Malaysia has more than enough islands to complete your dream vacation.

One of the top islands that you don't want to miss is the Tioman island located in the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia. It is rated as one of the world's most beautiful islands and the biggest and most impressive one in the east coast. The west section of the island is covered with a brisk jungle filled with many kinds of flora and fauna, waiting to be explored by visitors from all around the world.

There are quite a number of villages in Tioman island, each offers different kind of activities for tourists and the likes. Snorkelling in the island's crystal clear water is the most popular activity, together with diving and exploring the underwater world. If you fancy playing golf on the island, you should book a room in Berjaya Tioman Beach Resort where it has its own 18-hole golf course for you to enjoy your time there.

Langkawi Island is another great destination, popularly known for not just its beauty and charm but also its legendary myths and stories. Talk to the locals and they can tell you all the legends you need to know. What more, the island is full of places said to be related to these mythical stories for you to check out and see for yourself.

If you instead fancy for a bit of shopping, you'd be happy to know that Langkawi is a duty-free island, which means that most of the items in your shopping list would be cheaper than when you buy them outside the island. There are so many things to do in Langkawi as well other than the usual stuff such as snorkelling or scuba diving.

Its Geopark status means that there are plenty of wildlife attractions that you can explore such as its waterfalls and caves. Art and craft activities can be seen a lot in Langkawi island too so if you're into it, it's a nice place to admire the beauty of the locals' masterpiece.

Other great islands in Malaysia including Pangkor Island on the western coast of Peninsular Malaysia and Redang Island on the east coast. Pangkor has the advantage of not being affected by the north-eastern monsoon, generally occuring between November and March each year in Malaysia. There are also a lot of fishing settlements in the island where you can watch the fishermen bringing back their catch which includes cuttlefish and anchovies.

Redang Island is well known for its marine parks and marine sports such as wind surfing. The pearly white sandy beaches along the coast is one of the main attractions but there are more that Redang Island can offer that makes your trip a worthwhile visit.

Tips for your Cruise Vacation

By: Amy Moore

These are cruise vacation tips that I use to save money and still have a fantastic time on my cruise vacation.

Bottled water gets expensive. Purchase a reusable bottle that you can fill up for your time on the ship and during excursions. I would fill my water bottle up in the dining room before we head out to explore the new city and we didn't have to worry about buying bottled water everywhere we went.

Every night you will be given an itinerary of the next city you are going to. There will be prizes and drawings offered at the shops at your next port of call. Visit those shops and you can expect cute little trinkets that you can take back as your souveniers at no extra cost! They just want you to step into their shops. I had lovely jewelry and trinkets to bring back as gifts and it didn't cost me single penny.

Attend the art auctions. At the auctions you have no obligation to make any purchases. You have the opportunity to sit and view art and get a little history of the painting and artist while sipping champagne. Champagne is complimentary offered at all art auctions. You will also be given a free piece art upon exiting the auction program. Sometimes it's worth it, I got a beautiful picture of the Caribbean when I sat through one of the auctions.

If you attend the activities and raffles throughout the trips you can win some awesome prizes. There was a contest on my most recent cruise. You had to guess which piece of jewelry was a fake piece and was given a prize worth $200 of Amber. I guessed right, however I didn't win the contest. It was fun, nonetheless.

Havana City Guide – Cuba's Zoo

By: Matthew Barker

The Zoo of Havana was inaugurated on October 24, 1939 in the lands of the former farm and nursery "La Rosa", an estate owned by the City Hall of Havana, and it had initially 69 animal species in 2 hectares of land. Today, this zoo has 164 species in an extension of almost 24 hectares; a zoo that Cubans know as the Zoo on 26th because it is located on that avenue in the neighborhood of Nuevo Vedado.

In its main entrance, a group of sculptures made by the Cuban artist Rita Longa and placed there in 1947 stands high; sculptures that have become the symbol of the park. In the same decade, the lions pit and the lake system were built; and in 1947 the island of the crocodiles was constructed, while the place for keeping elephants, which has a slope, was built in 1960. The places to keep the great mammals (rhinoceros and hippopotamuses) were built after a study of the weight of these animals.

Even though the monkeys are one of the main attractions of the park, this zoo also has a fabulous collection of birds and reptiles, being among them Santa María snakes and two pythons of 3 meters each. One thing that calls the attention of this zoo is having one of the few birds that have hair in Cuba: the Australian eagle; an American owl from Virginia that is more than 40 years old; and the male of a condor pair, a gift from the Chilean president Salvador Allende to Fidel Castro.

The reproduction of animals in captivity has had good results in the zoo. In 2008, new young specimens were born; and around the tens of newly born, there were a coyote, a buffalo and more recently, a pair of condors that was donated to the Andean countries for the increase of the species in the wild.

However, there is a group of unique species that are truly endangered because Cuba has not had the possibility to interchange specimens with other zoos in the region due to the environmental issues of the countries, affected by diseases such as the milk fever or parrot fever; all of which have made the reproduction of these species impossible.

Cuba Attractions The Havana Book Market

By: Matthew Barker

From Wednesdays to Saturdays, an improvised market of book sellers opens up in the Havana's Plaza de Armas, the oldest square constructed in Havana, where the book sellers exhibit their titles and rare books. This square dates from the 16 century and is a must-see for tourists. The book sellers in this square work under a legal status and pay a lease for the place and a license for freelancing.آ

Among the book sellers we can find a woman that inherited her skills as a seller from her mother and who has been selling hundreds of books during 12 years in the square; or a married couple, she is a lawyer and he is an aviation mechanic, who do not think to return to their professions and prefer selling books even though some days they go back without having sold a single book. However, not all the books are sold to foreigners; the sellers have regular Cuban customers for whom they keep books by Cuban writers who live exiled orآ books that are not printed or legally sold in Cuba for being forbidden by the Cuban regime. Other customers are collectors who are always looking for an important or lost title. These particular books are not always shown on the shelves, but the sellers admit that they have not had any problems with the authorities for selling them.

Generally speaking, the prices are really low for the tourists, but Cubans are not likely to afford that sort of money. Tourists buy mainly books related to everything that means communism in Cuba (Chأ©, Fidel, the Revolution, etc.) and books on santeria. Very ancient books dating from the 19th century are likely to be found at bargain prices (up to 30 CUC). In general, what customers look for the most in these shelves of the Arms Square are books on Afro Cuban folklore and on Cuban history.

Old editions of Cuban recipe books can also be found (the books by TV presenter and cook Nitza Villapol are much-sought after).آ The sellers have old editions of books on Cuban art, almost all the books printed on Cuban music and Cuban musicians, and recently they have included among their offers stamp collections and collections of ancient photographs. Some sellers have specialized in selling illegal editions of books that are about to come out from the printers.

In recent years, the visitor can find all kinds of rare souvenirs: commemorative medals from the post-soviet stage in Cuba, old foreign bills and coins belonging to Cuban collectors, acetates of Cuban and international music, and every time more books, photographs and papers that belonged to important figures of the Cuban history and culture.

The Origins of Cuban Art

By: Matthew Barker

The first manifestations of the plastic arts in Cuba must be placed in the archaeological sites of the aboriginal villages where clay vessels and petal-shaped axes (finely polished symmetric stones) have been found. These two elements were very characteristic of the most developed aboriginal group on the island. Among the objects related to religious rites the cemies are really abundant, idols or images carved in stone, clay, wood, shell, or coral reef; and the dujos, four-legged wooden chairs whose back ended in a curve with symbolic frames highly estimated by the value, delicacy and meticulosity of the carving.

In the 16th century, the first streets were traced and the first churches were built. A certificate from that time states that in 1584 the painter Juan Camargo was the first artist painting the altarpiece of the Parochial Church. The defense of the island, and especially Havana, against the attacks of pirates and privateers was of paramount importance; that is the reason why military constructions were built in the first place, following the religious constructions and the civil constructions in that order.

The churches made of masonry usually only had one nave, the exterior quite restrained. However, some churches were decorated with towers to one side; and to others lateral naves were added, henceu the reason why today we can see two octagonal small towers that complement harmoniously the two bodies of the facade in some cases. The interiors of the churches were decorated with carved images having colors of certain value and made of precious and fine woods; and with very elaborate candelabra, tabernacles, and missals which were fundamentally donations.

During the 16th century and from that moment on, houses and buildings were constructed under the Moorish influence, with balconies and galleries covered in the top floor with decorated ceilings. In the 17th century the architecture on the island took shape with the so called Cuban baroque. During this period a Cuban bourgeoisie began to rise intervening in the development of the economy. The United States of America became independent from England and became the main consumer of the island.

Already in the 18th century, the construction of the churches had transversed coffered arches within the naves. An example of this is the church of Guanabacoa, attributed to Alejandro Hernández. In the towers of the churches, masonry pyramidal spirals were used (square and polygonal towers) and the decoration used was basically the same, beautiful, elaborate carvings. The Cathedral of Havana is finished in 1748 emerging with its construction the ornamental motif "la Habanera Jamba" and the suppression of pedestals. It is known that in this construction the Spanish Pedro de Medina from Cadiz and the Havanan Fernández Trevejos participated. Its baroque style can be found in the movement of the façade on both sides of the main gates, the use of undulant, crooked lines and the use of crosswise columns and spirals at the cornices. The interior was covered in wood; nonetheless, almost at the end of the 19th century it was covered in plaster resembling gothic vaults and decorative paintings were added.
